Beautiful views of Lake Almanor and Mount Lassen can be seen from Rocky Point Campground, located among the ponderosa pines in Plumas County, one of Northern California's most scenic areas. Several sites are available for reservations, which can be booked from our online system. Other sites remain first come, first served. Many of the camping spots are on the shoreline of Lake Almanor, known for its boating, fishing and waterskiing. Biking or walking the paved Lake Almanor Recreation Trail reveals the birds, scenery and wildlife of the area.
Go west on Hwy 36 out of Susanville through Chester. Then turn south on 89 and go about 10 miles to the campground entrance.
Great place, has bathrooms nearby and fire pits. They have information boards nearby, sand (does stick with your shoes). The weather wasn't too bad, many places to camp. Recommended to buy/rent a space earlier on their site because spots go fast. Mountain view is beautiful. I'd recommend anyone who wants to camp, be there for one day and enjoy being outdoors. You can be in tents or RVs so it's flexible. Great view of stars at night, blanket of stars was my favorite part. Its also pet friendly as long as its not roaming around without owner. It's great place, just follow the rules and you're good (they don't have that many rules)
Best views of the lake and very friendly hosts. You can sleet right on the edge of the lake and have a morning swim. One of the hosts Jack even brought us the fire wood to our campsite.
Big minus for us was that there are no showers... :(
Had to stay the next night at the north shore campground (way more expensive, view not as good and long term RVs) to be able to use their facilities. Would have loved to stay longer at Rocky Point!
Very clean, relatively spacious. Only gripe I have, and it's minor, is the limited parking available. It's a tight squeeze for 2 mid sized cars. Otherwise, great lake access, clean bathrooms, and friendly camp hosts.
We’ve been coming to Lk. Almanor for years with our kids. Campsites & bathrooms are clean and well taken care of. Great camp hosts they checked in on us a few times asked if we needed anything. Very social. 😊
We come here at least once a year if there are no fires in the vicinity. August is our preference, but you never know about the weather in recent years, so I think it might change to June. This is a PGE campground, so no hookups, just dry camping. It is a kid & dog friendly campground, although you must have a leash if walking your dog.
