About Campground

Black Rock Campground is a dispersed campground situated in the Oak Woodlands along Mill Creek. 6 sites are available for primitive dispersed camping. Grills and tables are provided at each of the 6 sites. Black Rock Campground is open year round. Black Rock Campground is located on the Northeast corner of the Ishi Wilderness. Hiking in the Ishi and along Mill Creek is wonderful and the fishing in Deer and Mill Creeks can be very rewarding. Black Rock Campground is accessible via Highway 36 east from Red Bluff to Ponderosa Way. Ponderosa Way is a dirt road, not recommended for RVs, that leads to the Ishi Wilderness.

It is just a bit of a bumpy ride to get there but it is absolutely worth it.

We camped out here for two nights and it was perfect, the sound of the water constantly flowing, and all the greenery everywhere makes it quite relaxing.

The campground is really tiny, there are under 10 spots for the whole site so make sure to come early.

It is a free and clean place, however the toilets were in pretty bad shape, I believe most people visiting this site don’t really use them..

There is a beautiful little hike/walk, with gorgeous views of the falls and some neat bridges. I would definitely camp here again and recommend this campsite.

Great campground in the Ishi Wilderness. Roads are dirt but don't need high clearance to get to Black Rock. Great place to get away and swim during the summer.

Awesome and fun dirty road on the way in . No reservation Necessary! I just pulled up and camped two nights it was cool! I’m a lone female traveler and I felt safe and relaxed the whole time. Also I left my fishing pole at the camp ground feel free to used it and hopefully you will leave it for the next person to used it too lol

It's okay in my opinion. The highlight is the swimming pool and a small waterfall. The sites themselves are mostly small and not set up well for campers to make their camp. Small and a lot of sloping ground . The road in was an adventure in my low profile car. Took a while. It's a long dirt road. It's pretty rough and narrow in areas with steep mountainsides. Drive with caution.
