From Highway 28, at Harrington turn west onto Coffeepot Road and travel about 12 miles, then turn right onto Highline Road. Watch for public land access signs. Drive 1.5 miles to the entrance on the right. Follow this access road for about 2 miles to reach the recreation site. Plan for a drive of one to two hours from Spokane.
Like Jeff Huting said, it's a rough road. Don't come in a car. Good chance you'll need 4wd at some point. Switchbacks are very steep, but so drive smart. Downhill traffic always has the right of way. But it's absolutely 100% worth the trek! I've been here many times. Late spring there are mini "glaciers" on either side of the lakes, summer time is full of color. Both are beautiful in their own respect. You are up high, so it will be windy. In the dozen or so times I've been here, never had more than 10 vehicles in the upper area. Far, far from crowded.
Twin Lakes are nice lakes to visit and photograph.
A nice trail to walk on.
Took a trip up to the lakes 7/16/2022. Road past the first hiking trail will need 4wd as the road is washed out from the winter thaw. Once at Twin Lakes there is 4 feet of snow and impassable.
It's a pretty rough road to get all the way up there and it gets crowded and busy but I think it's worth it for the beautiful views. Nice hike and amazing scenery.
First part of the road you can make it up with almost anything if you take it slow, that is up to the trailhead to Yellow Aster Butte, after that the road is no longer maintained. Thats when the fun begins, nice dips and rough road with tight switchbacks and steep grades on loose dirt, but the veiw is spectacular. Air down your tires if you have a way to fill them up later so you can keep it in 2wd to easily make the switchbacks and avoid tire slippage, through dips and up bumps you come to the lakes with 3 trailheads and some of the best views in the PNW. Come with plenty of water and take a dip in the lake after your hike!
