Like Jeff Huting said, it's a rough road. Don't come in a car. Good chance you'll need 4wd at some point. Switchbacks are very steep, but so drive smart. Downhill traffic always has the right of way. But it's absolutely 100% worth the trek! I've been here many times. Late spring there are mini "glaciers" on either side of the lakes, summer time is full of color. Both are beautiful in their own respect. You are up high, so it will be windy. In the dozen or so times I've been here, never had more than 10 vehicles in the upper area. Far, far from crowded.
