First part of the road you can make it up with almost anything if you take it slow, that is up to the trailhead to Yellow Aster Butte, after that the road is no longer maintained. Thats when the fun begins, nice dips and rough road with tight switchbacks and steep grades on loose dirt, but the veiw is spectacular. Air down your tires if you have a way to fill them up later so you can keep it in 2wd to easily make the switchbacks and avoid tire slippage, through dips and up bumps you come to the lakes with 3 trailheads and some of the best views in the PNW. Come with plenty of water and take a dip in the lake after your hike!
