In Orem, UT, at intersection of State Rt. 52 and US Rt. 89, take Rt. 52 east 2.4 miles to the end of Rt. 52 at a "Y" intersection (US Rt. 189). Bear left onto Rt. 189 North and go 2.8 miles to Squaw Peak Rd. Turn left onto a narrow 2-lane paved road and go 4.1 miles to a "T" intersection. Turn left, following Hope campground sign, and go 0.4 miles to campground sign. Turn left at sign onto a single-lane dirt road and go 0.2 miles to campground.
Very close to Orem/Provo. 20 min drive. No cell service. Took 20 young women. Did a walk up double site #12 on a weekday. Good flat areas for big tents. Plenty of trees. Water source is turned off. Outhouses had TP but weren't terribly clean.
First time camping here, very new to camping. Gorgeous drive up in the fall. Arrived at 3pm and only a few places taken, was first come first serve. We picked site 8. Great secluded spot, but I can understand complaints about small tent space and no privacy. We were lucky hardly anyone showed up on a Sunday.
Area was beautiful, lots of nature sites to see. Never saw/met the host. No running water. Brought our own firewood and water. Toilets are a pit but we're clean, just far from our site.
Some guy came walking right through our campsite though, it was unnerving from the woods behind us like it was no big deal.
Also lots of wasps or hornets, pretty annoying, but they were just thirsty, it's not their fault.
Overall, enjoyable experience. Would camp here again.
No host, plenty of open sites, self pay, pit toilets, and no water or firewood. It was difficult to find a flat space for our tent, and we don’t have a big tent. We had to go back into town to get water and firewood at the store (there’s a wonderful grocery store nearby with everything you’d ever need). The drive up is gorgeous! Saw deer twice and a fox!
By far the best camp site I have ever been to! It was huge and private. We estimated about 30' at the opening and 50' long. We could have easily fit 3 large tents to the side of the vehicle pad, or 2 large tents and another vehicle, but since it was just me and my wife with our teardrop trailer, that became our spot to lay in the hammock and lounge around our propane fire pit.
We parked our trailer on the vehicle pad, and there was enough room to park my truck in font of it (perpendicular to the trailer and parallel to the road), so that it closed off the entry to our site. There was easily 10' free space behind my truck, so I estimate the site opening to be about 30' wide.
At the back of the site was the picnic table, fire pit, and bbq grill. Super private back there, with no other sites within view, although you can see the occasional car drive by or other campers walking around the site.
It was Labor Day weekend 2020, so we had neighbors in front of us and to the right. There was thick brush to our left, so we didn't know if there was another site there, but we didn't hear or see anyone. We barely saw the folks who stayed across from us, and we rarely heard them. The folks to our right were only there one night with a couple of kids, and we could only see them when they were gathering around their picnic table. There are a few trees between us, and they had to be about 30-40' away, so we didn't hear much noise coming from their way.
Our camp host was a young guy who was very polite and mellow. We would see him do his rounds, and if he ever saw us look up at him, he'd give us a wave and smile. It was nice to know that he was consistently doing his rounds and keeping an eye on the place.
There were no hookups or water, so we had to bring everything in. We drove out from California, and naturally we forgot lots of things, but there were grocery stores 20 minutes away that saved the day. So cool to be so close to the city, yet feel so far away!
The road up the campground is a bit windy, and when you get to the campground, it's a narrow dirt road. I don't think two cars could pass by each other on that road, and I'm glad that when I drove it, there was just me at the time.
So far, it's my most favorite camp site ever with plenty of nearby places to hike... except you'll have to drive to them, but nothing was too far away. Overall a great experience and highly recommended!
...Oh yeah, we were in site #18.
Excellent campground! Easy to get to as well. Paved road all the way with two lanes except last bit is packed dirt / gravel. Four-wheel drive not necessary here. Camp host is great and they are trying to restore water to the campground. Every site has about 80 to 90% shade for the whole day. Lots of little hikes around the site and vaulted toilets are great. BBQ pits and fire pits are good and tent sites are nice and flat. Every site we examined had at least two spots for tents. Squaw peak overlook is close as well and is beautiful. Lots of trees. Bring bug spray. Also bring your own water and firewood. Camp host does have some wood for sale but don't count on it.
