Bowie could really use a good park. This one is decent but could use some updating. (Have you seen the park in Decatur!?) It's great to see the skate park is still being used regularly. The pavilion is still great for parties.
This park has a nice playground area that the grandkids love. It’s in a nearby nice location close to where the Bowie second Mondays is located. There are shade trees and room to run and play.
Park located at the southern end of the town. Location of the Largest Bowie Knife. Just a little roadside stop to read how all this came about and take a few photos. I recommend going into town and looking around several historical buildings with several unique shops and restaurants.
Little hometown park perfect for the little ones to play in. The equipment is surrounded by a fence, so moms with a fear of their kids getting away from them don't have to worry. The pavilion behind it is nice for a shady picnic or for kids to ride bikes or skate in if it's too hot or raining. There's a skate park also and a nice walking trail without having to leave in your car to get to them. Best park in Bowie. 👍👍
This is the kind place that every child, tween, and teenager should visit regularly. In our modern world with our modern digital lives, we still need sunshine and physical activity. I didn't hear any loud music or foul language. There were no vagabonds, junkies or dealers skulking about. There was no trash & litter. But did you know what I did see?
I seen grandparents with 2 young girls on the jungle gym and 2 teenage boys (about 15/16 yrs) very determinedly practicing a kick flip. I seen adults at neighboring business keeping a close eye on me. I'm not offend at all by this because I'm a stranger to these local people.
There are see-saws, swings with chains, an outdoor covered pavilion, a children's trail with corresponding story post, a rock garden, a tennis court and so much more.
There is nothing overly complicated or technical or even modern about Pelham Park. And that's the most beautiful part of it. The simplicity of nature and the everlasting energy of youth to create and mold the souls of the next generation.
