From town: Go 4 mi W on Alt US 90, then S on FM 2091.
A nice, if rustic, RV park with full hookups, electric and water sites and tent sites. The roads are gravel and pretty narrow in a couple of spots but we were able to pull our 31' travel trailer through easily. The RV spots were gravel and pretty level with a large concrete pad with a large concrete picnic table, plenty of room for extra chairs on the pad.
Lake Wood mostly disappeared after the 2016 dam break but there is still a small lake above the dam although there is no direct access for kayaking/canoeing. You can walk to it for fishing.
Below the dam the Guadalupe River was good for swimming, fishing, kayaking/canoeing and wading. Several groups set up pop-ups in the water or on the shore and the water is mostly shallow with a mostly sandy shore so it was kid-friendly. My 13 y/o son and I kayaked 1 mile downstream and only had to pull the kayak over one short shallow spot. The flow downstream is good and didn't really have to paddle. Coming back upstream 95% if the way was an easy paddle due to the width of the river. About 100 to 150-ish feet the channel is narrow, shallow and fast and my son was barely able to help paddle through it and I had to work at almost maximum effort.
So far NOT impressed. Had no option to speak with someone to ask questions upon check in. Restrooms near our site are horrendous to say the least and nit usable. The "swimming area" looks NOTHING like the pictures online and pretty sure swimming is not going to be an option this weekend. Also, most of the sites here are people who seem to LIVE here. We came , we saw, we now know and likely will not return and even more likely our weekend outing is being cut short.
Been coming here for years and we absolutely love it! Nice campgrounds, great people. But the restrooms need a lot of updates! Like I said we have been coming for years and the restrooms have never changed. They need a complete remodel. I would also like to add that the campground host Vickie and Ronnie where really nice and welcoming! We will definitely be back! Hope to see some a remodel to bathrooms next time we visit.
Nice place to camp or park an RV. Nice restrooms. Grill and fire pit are provided as well as a bench. Plan to come back in the future!
Stayed for almost a year. Lots of beauty to see peaceful surroundings. Lots of places to stay whether you’re tenting, or your RVing. Fishing, playground for the children, laundry room, bathrooms with showers, and very clean. The hosts of the Park. are always on site very courteous, and very helpful and knowledgeable about RVs. Everyone is helpful at the park. There’s never a stranger. You’re always welcomed with warm hearts and open arms. A great place to meet new friends, old, friends, and nature at its best. Wake up in the morning with a nice fire, hot coffee, deer, cattle and a few little critters. Jerry, your park ranger, is wonderful and very helpful as well. He runs a clean and well manicured RV recreational center. Don’t worry if you forgot your wood, the hosts always have lots of wood for you to purchase and there are lots of limbs and twigs for kindling .So,if you’re looking for peace and quiet and serenity and a place to meditate or just to have fun and relax, Lakewood is your place. 30/50amp hookups priced just right. they have overnight, weekend, monthly rates.. so, be kind to yourself and do yourself a favor and visit Lakewood recreation, relax, and unwind with nature.
