Governors Landing is the only campground in the park with potable water available. This campsite has access to some of the most popular swimming areas in the park as well.
From Del Rio: US 90 W 15 mi; Spur 349 toward Amistad Dam; turn at first Road toward campground.
Probably offered the best views of the lake compared to the surrounding campsites, but was also situated closest to the nearby highway and it's noise...
There was running water, toilets and some campsites had shelters for shade or protection from rain which came in handy for me in the rain.
Paying for the Campsites proved difficult for me as the kiosk was broken, envelopes were gone and my phone didn't have data...
Seemed to be an alright place to eat lunch or relax and do nothing, but not much of a draw on hiking or actually engaging with the lake. There may be hiking trails but I didn't see any mention of them.
Loved the views of the lake; we were able to blaze our own trail down to it from our own campsite (though there was a paved pathway to it elsewhere) to take in a gorgeous sunset.
The only downside to the area was how close the site is to the highway.
You will have road noise. But it does have water to fill tanks. I’d stay there again
Beautiful location near Del Rio Texas! Terrific place for relaxation and lots of places to hike and explore !! Although I'm not a fisherman, there seemed to be an abundance of fishing opportunities here.
Pretty cool fishing spot with the bros. We go at night , great facilities and BP makes rounds frequent even at night. Don’t fear for my car , and they have a toilet available. Nice spot to set a chair and enjoy the evening.
