About Campground

Almost heaven on the banks of the Greenbrier River. Our campsites are on the historic Hinton-Alderson Airport and overlook the scenic Greenbrier River. Only an hour and 15 minutes drive away from New River Gorge National Park. Look under Extras to see local amenities such as Kayaking, tubing, and canoeing. We have 3 sites at the airport, Cub, Stearman, and Skyhawk. There are over 100 yards between the sites, so your privacy is guaranteed! Firewood is on-site for the firepit/grill. The front of the tent faces the river, and the porch provides a scenic spot to watch the river flow! The Greenbrier River is a great place to fish for smallmouth bass. You can obtain a fishing license online by going to https://www.wvhunt.com. The airport does not have fuel, but KLWB has fuel, rental cars, a 7000-foot runway, and is only 18 nautical miles away! Also close to the KLWB airport is a fabulous WV Distillery (Smooth Ambler). If you fly into camp, you can get a rental car at KLWB and easily get to white water rafting and other outdoor adventures at New River Gorge National Park, and if you want to stay local there are several rafting companies that will provide you with a variety of watercraft, pick you up at the airport, and drop you off at a put-in location. They will meet you at the end of your float and return you to the airport! See the Extra tab for their names and numbers!

There is a hot shower and flush toilet for your use at the hangar!

The Space:

Fly In Glamping Getaway at the Hinton-Alderson Airport (WV77) overlooking the Greenbrier River. Cub, Stearman and Skyhawk sites are available

Guest Access:

This is an exclusive Tentrr Signature campsite. Tentrr partners with land owners to offer unique accommodations in beautiful outdoor spaces. Our campsites are off-the-grid which means they generally do not have access to electricity, wifi, or modern plumbing. Instead, they offer the chance to relax, unplug, and fully experience nature!

Your Tentrr campsite includes a 10'x12' (120 square feet) safari-style canvas tent on a raised wooden platform. Inside the tent you'll find one queen bed or a queen-size bunk bed (see photos for the exact setup). The tent is big enough for the bed plus one or two extra sleeping bags on the floor. Aside from the canvas tent, campers can also use the extra 5-person pop-up dome tent that___s provided. You'll also have a 6-ft picnic table, outdoor fire pit, 2 Tentrr Adirondack chairs, and a heating source to keep you warm and toasty at night.

Group Camping: We welcome campers with larger parties, but the standard Tentrr setup only includes the canvas tent plus the additional pop-up dome tent. You may need and are encouraged to bring additional camping gear of your own if you plan on camping with a large party.

Max Occupancy: This refers to the total number of campers allowed onsite with your reservation. You may have as many campers in your party up to the maximum limit that is set for the listing, but please note that the only bed provided as a standard amenity is the one set up inside the canvas tent.

Toilets: Every campsite is equipped with a camp toilet (we call it the Tentrr Loo). This is a simple wooden box with a toilet seat and a bucket inside. To use, line the bucket with a CleanWaste Sani-Bag supplied at the camp prior to use. Afterwards, simply tie the bag up and place it in a trash bag. CleanWaste Sani-Bags use a NASA-developed gelling/deodorizing agent that helps prevent spills and keeps everyone safe and clean.

Showers: Every Signature campsite comes with a Coleman Sun Shower. The sun shower has a reservoir that holds up to 5 gallons of water, potentially enough for multiple showers. It's constructed of heat-locking material that warms the water when it's left in the sun, even on cool days.

What you should bring:

-S'mores supplies & any food you'd like to eat

-A cooler to keep your grub from spoiling

-Lanterns and lighting

Interaction with Guests:

Upon check out, you should leave-no-trace of your stay and be sure your campsite is returned to its natural glory! While Tentrr does not charge a cleaning fee, we do expect campsites to be left how they were found. After you check out, take everything you brought in and be sure to leave your trash at the designated location on the property.

If a CampKeeper submits an incident report after your stay that details evidence of trash or damage to the campsite or the CampKeeper___s property, Tentrr reserves the right to charge a minimum cleaning fee of $50. Just make sure to follow the Camper Manual posted at your campsite and you'll be set!

Reservation Modifications/Cancellations: Please note the terms of the cancelation policy as they are outlined in your reservation confirmation on Airbnb. If you need to cancel or modify your reservation, please reach out to Tentrr Customer Support. Your CampKeeper is unable to change or cancel your reservation on your behalf. Tentrr Customer Support can be reached at (888) 798-9093 or at [email protected].

Other Things to Note:

Parking your vehicle or airplane onsite is allowed. Two cars or two airplanes maximum per site. Each site has a pop-up camping tent in addition to the Glamping tent. Max 6 persons on each site. No driving on the runway. Bring river shoes (Tevas, Merrills) Quiet hours from 10 pm-7 am. Pilots flying in, please call the airport manager (WV77) before arrival. Airplanes should provide their own tie-downs and ropes. We can deliver groceries, ice, etc. Contact the Camp Keeper.

I’d love to give this place five stars because it is absolutely beautiful and picturesque. The tent with the front porch and the Adirondack chairs really cool, bed was comfortable, it was convenient to have your own toilet, picnic table cabinet and fire pit. Absolutely love all of that! However, yes there’s trains that run all night, every hour on the hour extra long boxes on this coal moving fright train. I felt like I was in Brooklyn or Newark so far as the amount of train noise pollution. It’s a shame and in speaking to the other campers we can’t help but feel ripped off because this was not disclosed and that is not cool. Shame on you tenttrr.

My dad & I camped in 1of your tents at Hawks Nest recently.

It was the best camping trip ever!!!!!!

A big part of that was your employee, Ryan Pratt.

He was the nicest, helpful youngan ever!!

I worked in customer service alot of yrs, retiring in 2009.

I can tell u,I would have hired this young man in a min!!!

The way he treats u, interacts with u, & always asking if there is anything we needed or, anything he could help us with just blew my mind.

He is a wonderful representive 4 your company.

I hate that this is seasonal work & someone may snatch him up during the off period when u r closed.

Ya better hold on to this 1 if u can.!!!!..

So glad we came there. He even bought us night crawlers & milk when we ran out.

He weed eated so we could have better view of the river....

Awsome young man.

Tent was spacious..loved the queen size bed & the potty..so easy to use...

Incredibly gorgeous and secluded. From 9pm until 9am, you are the only inhabitants in this area. These tents had toilets and Tempurpedic mattresses! Located next to running river, these were WELL worth the nightly price.

We had a great stay! The spot was exactly as described. The attentive groundskeepers made sure we were comfortable. I loved that we had the whole area to ourselves and the proximity to the water. I can't wait to go back again!

It's a rocky, one-lane drive to get here. But wow is it great. Be careful not to think that you're going to the main overlook when driving here. This area if the state park (aka the Rail Trail) is at water level and does not connect to the main area of the park with the lodge and overlooks.

Nonetheless it's a great, private, and serene area if the park to see. Definitely recommend.
