We have been camping for 25 years and know what is important to us in a campground, so I’m writing this review in order to help others with the same likes/dislikes.
First off, Stoneyfork campground is exceptionally clean and well cared for. It’s an adorable little campground. I would say 90 percent of it are seasonal sites. And it looked to me like most of them were of older retirement age.
We have older teenagers and they like to have things to do and this is the type of campground that doesn’t have activities or events happening. It’s just a campground. It was ridiculously quiet there. I think it was us and maybe 5 other couples/families there. We were there at the beginning of August, and we mostly went to visit the PA Grand Canyon. It was lovely, but the campground was about 25 minutes away from the canyon. Also when we checked into the campground the kind man told us that if we brought bikes we could ride them there. Maybe I misunderstood because we discovered a bike trail about 20 minutes away. But he wasn’t clear, there was no way anyone could ride there bikes to the canyon.
So this is not the campgrounds fault but because it’s situated in a wide valley with beautiful mountains surrounding it, the wind is just wicked. We had to put everything that was outside away. And pull our awning in, for the 4 out of 5 days that we were there. Again, not their fault, just throwing this out there for people like us that like to be outside and cook, play games, etc.
There is a cute playground. But the basically the one road around the grounds is gravel… so little kids bikes and scooters won’t work well.
Ok… when we’re on vacation Wi-Fi is sometimes important. And it was non existent. AT&T and Verizon did not work there, ( AT&T sometimes had a one bar). So you were relying on the wifi. It was awful. They advertise it, but really shouldn’t. We had to drive about 10 miles to find decent cell service.
This is a cute place for a couple of days. But not quite the place for us.
If you want very peaceful and very quiet then this is the campground for you.
We had a lovely stay this long weekend. Clean, quiet, and loved hearing the creek and owls at night.
We booked a full hookup site with our pop up camper. As a late arrival (coming from Maine), our materials were tacked to the board. The owners had graciously moved us from a flooded site to one that was much better. We were very comfortable letting our kids ride their bikes around with walkie talkies to stay in touch, and the new pool was nice and clean.
One thing to note - the map looked as though the bathhouse was a short walk from our site. We assumed it was flat, but it’s not. It was a long walk uphill to the restroom with no staircase up the drop off below the cabins - would be great to have a latrine or bathroom down below. Not everyone who books a full hookup site has a camper with a bathroom - we were not the only pop up in our section. So just something to consider as you choose your site! But we’d stay here again.
My Fiancé booked us a 3 day getaway for my 34th birthday.
She chose Stoney Fork Creek Campground for our stay.
I have nothing but great things to say about the campground, very quiet and quaint. Had a blast fishing and the views are phenomenal.
The owners are very nice helpful and always smiling.
Thank you for a pleasant stay and a great birthday!
Will return again Cabin C1 very nice and well equipped
Upon arrival, we were greeted by a pleasant staff member whom checked us in. We got to our site (#4) and were very satisfied with the size and setting. Right up against the creek and plenty of room for our 24’ RV, sedan, car dolly, and still room for a campfire. Great entertainment watching the vehicles crossing across the creek. Many of the transient sites look to be uneven so bring plenty of wood for leveling. The overall layout of the property was interesting. One section is only accessible by driving through the creek. The water level still allowed higher vehicles to cross throughout the 4 days we stayed, even with the rain. There is a footbridge to access that section as well but once your low rider car is crossed, you better hope it doesn’t rain or you’re hanging out an extra night until the water subsides.
We didn’t utilize the pool but it looked fine, good size and always had people in it. The bathhouses are rustic but functional. My only complaints are that it would be nice if the outer shower stall closure was an actual door instead of a curtain (I was constantly peeking out to make sure someone wasn’t rummaging through my things); and it would be nice if maybe on Friday and Saturday nights the camp store would be open longer than 5pm (we realized a little too late that we had forgotten butter). My final complaint is not in any way a reflection of the campground itself, but be aware that this is an area with very limited cell phone service and the wifi that the campground graciously provides, is also spotty because of the user traffic as well as surrounding natural elements.
Overall, it was a nice place, definitely somewhere we would return to.
This campground was extremely clean and enjoyable. The staff is super helpful. I lost a bolt on my walker and one of the staff brought me one from his utility shed and fixed it for me and he didn’t want any money for it. There is plenty to do here as well with a clean pool, pond, creek, game room, activities, and plenty of room for sports. We stayed in one of their cabins. It looked brand new but to my surprise I was told that the cabins had been there for 20 years. Great place to camp.
