This was our first time camping at Shir-Roy. My fiance and I really didn't enjoy our time here. I understand that camping involves the outdoors and nature but there was an over abundance of bees everywhere around our site. I do not mean a few here and there. We couldn't even eat outside without being swarmed or them landing on us. I'm not sure if there was a nest close by but it seems like a dangerous situation waiting to happen. When I talked to others campers they all seemed to be having the same problem around their sites.
The swimming area is kinda gross unless you like murky, swamp-like water. Once again there were bees everywhere on the beach area. The paddle boat rentals are nice and the bathrooms and showers are very clean for a campsite. If the water was better and the bees were under control, we may have had a better time and most likely would return. Sadly we will look to other places when we camp.
We LOVE this place! The rec-hall is great fun, and there are lots for kids to do, they're prices are very affordable, and again tons for the kids to do and all the extras pedal carts, boat rentals, games and snacks all on the cheap. Sites are nice with free running water and electricity for a small fee. Showers are pretty nice for a campground too. All in all I would highly recommend Shir-Roy. Whether vacationing or just a weekend getaway.
I HIGHLY recommend this campground. Being a person who camped out of state and randomly found a campground on Google, this has been such an amazing experience, which was definitely unexpected. The campground is clean and nearly every site has a picnic table. Nothing is falling apart nor neglected. It's a beautiful location and fair in pricing. There is nothing I have been disappointed with. They have made sure we were taken care of with having showers available at any time we needed them which was a God send with hiking during the day. (Great hiking near by!) And at one point checked in to make sure we were doing ok. With talking to a woman who had a camper here, she shared she has been coming here for over 35 years which says alot on its own about this campground. Definitely coming back to this when we are in the area.
Our first summer as seasonal campers. We were made to feel welcome and included. Our campsite was spacious and we really enjoyed the time we spent there.
We had the one site next to the water (#24) for almost a week! GREAT site! Beautiful bathrooms, nice showers and family-friendly service. I could see the focus on giving campers things to do while camping. Knowing people and the way they destroy things, I thought it VERY CLEVER keeping sites away from the waterfront! Being just down the road from my home, I see myself heading back there in the near future.
