Ponderosa Campground — Cimarron Canyon State Park
Stay the night at Ponderosa Campground, and enjoy a fun-filled day of recreation by the riverside, or quiet evenings by the fire. There’s space for your RV or your tent, and restrooms are also close by. Across the road you can find killer trout fishing on the Cimarron River, or hit the Maverick Trail before cookin’ up some grub under the lush pines back at camp.
Campground is great. Cimarron canyon is always beautiful. Little sad after the fires but the campgrounds are still great. But the camp host was awful. We came in late one evening. Paid our money and was only staying that night we arrived then leaving the next afternoon. She accused us of not paying, and was very hateful. These public campgrounds are great and usually an awesome inexpensive place to stay. But here of late, the camp hosts are very rude and not helpful at all. They act as if they own the camp sites and want no one around. It happened down the road from Ponderosa as well. Give it a try though, maybe it will be a different host and be a pleasurable experience.
Didn’t realize we needed to make an online reservation. We got there, as the sun was setting, intending to pay for one night with an envelope, but nooooo. The campground was completely empty, except for two spaces being occupied, yet the host said we couldn’t use any of the 30 some odd spaces. He offered us the parking lot. Not recommended.
Very nice campground..no showers and Verizon doesn't have service really. They do have wifi but the camp host but you have to pay for it. The camp host was very nice. The bathroom and portapotty were both very clean. Tons of shade and pretty creek right there. Definitely recommend! O and only like 10 minutes from a close town for essentials.
