The Allegheny's smallest campground with six family campsites sits along the babbling waters of Minister Creek. The Minister Creek Trailhead is situated directly across SR 666 from the campground where the popular 6 mile loop Minister Creek Hiking Trailstarts and ends at the trailhead. Minster Creek Hiking Trail connects to the North Country National Scenic Trail at its northern most point. _ View/Print Site Brochure - _ pdf
Minister Creek Campground and Trailhead are located 14.7 miles southwest of Sheffield, PA via State Route 666.
Clean, inexpensive, and peaceful. A restroom is a great amenity when you are tent camping. People were respectful and courteous.
I love it here. Cheap camping and it was good for my husband because he had never been roughing it so I am easing him in slowly
Probably the nicest thing about this Campground is its access to the Minister Creek Trail System. There is access to the North Loop, Middle Loop and South Loop trails directly from the campground. Even the relatively short South Loop includes the Minister Valley Overlook, impressive giant boulder outcroppings, ferns, mosses and conifer trees.
Tiny pay campground (6 sites) on a bend in the road across from the Minister Creek Recreation parking area. Three campsites creekside. Most shady. Fire rings and picnic tables. Nice pit toilets at end of path. No cell service.
Minister Creek is lovely and our site was great. The location has a remote deep woods feel, but the recreation area can be busy. There is a network of nice trails that is next to the campground, and some people who are there for a hike will walk through the campground as well. One day there were two busses full of high school students that parked at the parking area. The students hiked the trails.
One photo below shows trail map. The campground is in the lower right corner (just barely in the photo).
Absolutely stunning place to stay for rustic camping. Very hard to find without a map. There is no service in this space. I brought my Atlas and had no problem finding it but can see many people getting lost along the way. The rustic camping is free of charge. Some sites have a fire ring built and left behind for use. Some sites you have to build it yourself using rocks.
There is a string of sites to pick from along the minister creek. Some are more secluded than others. Arrive early for the best picks. Good fishing and good hiking up to the lookout. The animals are active so be sure to leave your food in your car. There are black bears. Absolutely under no circumstances leave food in your tent. The bugs were biting so be sure to bring spray or citronella candles.
Buy these things before you get to the Allegheny forest the small towns don’t have much in their stores and what they do have is expensive. Unless you are a fan of stimulating the local economy, then be sure to save your hotdog and hamburger shopping for the small town Tops and Dollar General.
If you are looking for a very natural and laid back experience come to Minister Creek, if you want campsites side by side with staff and restrooms go to Dewdrop.
