From I-70 (east or west): Take exit 295 US-77/KS-18 W. Go South on US-77 for approx. 100 yards. Turn right (WEST) on Old Highway 40. Owl's Nest Campground is on the right hand side of the road just past Champions Car Wash and AA Self Storage. Just a few minutes from Fort Riley military base.
We've stayed here twice now, both times for over a month. The front staff are very friendly and more than helpful when needed. Most spots are for long term guests but the grounds are always very clean and well kept and the long term residents are very friendly towards us and the kids!
We booked tent site #2 online around 9pm and when we showed up the only site signed as #2 (and matching site #2) on the online map had an RV already parked in it. We drove around to see if perhaps another site was available but the entire park appeared full. We ended up going somewhere else. We called in the morning to see if we could be refunded but were told the site was available and was supposedly right next to the RV site and we had just missed it and were therefore not refunded for the site. Had we realized that was where the spot was, we still would not have felt comfortable pitching a tent right next to the RV without clear signage indicating that this is a separate site. And we are still unclear where we would have parked for this site.
Staff is very friendly. I had given them a not so good review. They reached out to me so that issues could be fixed. I am sure we will be staying there again in the fall. This is a campground not a motel.
We arrived late. We were able to get set up quickly. However, the hours on the office differ from the attendance. I needed change in the morning to use the washers. I could of called the number listed? But it wasn’t an emergency. Plus it was pouring rain.
Got in late as a tent camper, bought site online. Was incredibly hard to figure out where we were meant to setup as there was no signage and not clear parking near tent site. Felt sketchy setting up in the small amount of space we guessed that was alloted to us, pretty much on top of another site.
Campground was clean and well kept but clearly more of an RV park than campground. Wifi and laundry services nice plus but bathroom and showers were portapotties and bathroom had no toilet paper.
Nicely setup despite being next to the highway and a shipping center. Very noisy area but maybe fine in a RV. Not recommended for tent campers.
