The park is located on Route 89, 8 miles north of Ithaca.
A beautiful and easily accessible park with the tallest, free-flowing waterfall in the eastern United States. You can get a great view from the observation deck right off the road, or you can take a short (0.75 mile) hike to the base of the falls. Spectacular in the fall with all the colors! And very dog friendly, unlike some of the other gorge trails in the Finger Lakes Region.
This is a beautiful walk to get to the falls! It is all wooded fairly flat and just gorgeous! The waterfall again, I am sure, when spring comes, it's much fuller & even more beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed the walk to the bottom of the falls after seeing them from the top. And seeing the rock that surrounds the area nature is absolutely amazing!
This park is fantastic and has enough activities for the entire family to keep them entertained for the full day. Picnic spaces, playgrounds, a swimming area, kayak rentals, fishing, and camping are available on the lake's shore. You can go back into the gorge across the street to see the magnificent Taughannock Falls. Before departing, I also recommend driving up to the magnificent viewpoint of the falls. It's an excellent location for photography.
Taughhannock Falls and park are beautiful all year round and I have visited many times throughout the different seasons and it has always been an amazing experience. Today was no different. The trail had a fair amount of ice on, which is not entirely surprising but the Falls were definitely the cherry on top. Absolutely gorgeous, surrounded by ice spray. On winter days, you do have to be a little more careful because of falling debris (shale or ice) but not to the extent that you should avoid it.
