About Campground

Green Lakes State Park's outstanding features are its two glacial lakes surrounded by upland forest. Both Round and Green Lakes are meromictic lakes, which means that there is no fall and spring mixing of surface and bottom waters. Such lakes have a high potential for evidence of ancient plant and animal life. Another special feature of the park is an 18-hole golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones, where visitors can snowshoe in winter, and there are 10 miles of trails that cross-country skiers can use.

Geography:

Green Lakes State Park is located just east of the city of Syracuse, in upstate New York.

Recreation:

Considered a flagship facility, visitors can enjoy biking, boating, fishing, golf, hiking, picnicking, camping, and wintertime cross-country skiing.

Facilities:

The park's facilities include a beach, rowboat rentals, cabins and campsites, food concessions, a golf course, trails, picnic tables and pavilions, a playground, showers, and dumping stations.

The most crystal clear water I've ever seen. After seeing so many videos on kayaking at this place I literally wanted to do it at any cost but I went like 2 to 3 times and every time I went there was no kayaking.

Beautiful NY State Park with incredibly clear lakes.

We came specifically to kayak and had a really nice time. The prices for rentals were reasonable - we paid $10 an hour for single person kayaks and paddled around the whole lake. You are not allowed to bring in your own kayaks; to keep lake from any outside contaminants that might come in on personal watercraft.

We had been to Green Lakes before to hike but really enjoyed our time on the water. It was very relaxing and the water is amazingly clear. Highly recommend as a place to visit and if the weather cooperates - try kayaking!

Was not real easy to find. However was worth the trip. A very nice level hike around the lake was great for a couple short hikers. Nice bathrooms and plenty of parking and the park staff are clearly doing there job with keeping the trails cleared and clean. The service comment is for the golf course restaurant, not well marked for directions but is located at the top of the hill. great service and the staff treat you like they really are pleased you are there.

I was amazed by this park and the color of the water in both lakes. You can swim, sun, walk around two wonderful paths. It is truly a remarkable natural wonder. If you go, rent one of the glass-bottomed kayaks and explore the area. It's a nice place for a picnic and there are places to rent for an overnight stay.
