5900-foot elevation. 22 campsites in the canyon carved by Belt Creek in the Little Belt Moutains. Fishing for brook trout in the creek. The Belt Creek Information Center is about 8 miles north of the campground, and trails to the east of the visitor center connect to an extensive trail system. Bears may frequent the area; keep all food out of sight in approved containers and remove all food from area after eating. Mandatory food storage is required.
From Neihart, MT, take US Rt. 89 south 2.7 miles to campground sign. Turn right at sign into campground.
It is definitely a good campground. It’s in a really pretty canyon with lots of (apparent) recreation areas. I was a bit concerned about being in such close proximity to our “neighbors” cuz I didn’t want my puppy barking constantly or trying to run off to steal snacks from them. Honestly, it didn’t feel like the near sites were that close and the tent sites are a bit back from the road/parking area… the only issue I had (though not much of an issue) is there was no cell service. I should’ve activated my Garmin inReach before I left GF… all in all, I would recommend and/or go back there.
Absolutely wonderuful National Forest campground. One of my favorites. Creek nearby, many tall pines, hence the name. Enough space between the sites for enough privacy. Saw some deer and I'm sure plenty of opportunity to see other wildlife.
