New ownership and recently renovated in 2021, Casey and Kristen’s goal is to make their guests feel welcome and at home. Whether enjoying lake Hauser with family or a quiet weekend away, Grey Sandy makes your getaway simple with full hookup sites. Come say hello and enjoy a s’more on us at the community fire pit each night. Cabins, store and showers coming in 2023!
Good campground with wastewater dump at most sites. The evening fire pit was fun, and the store prices were very reasonable.
This was about the halfway point for my sisters family from North Dakota and mine from Washington State. Great week. The only bad thing was the campground is down a crummy gravel road.
We stayed here in our travel trailer at the end of Summer 2022 & loved it. Our site was full hook ups. The owners are helpful, pleasant & very easy to work with. They're making a lot of changes to the grounds & we were told 2023 will bring on-site laundry facilities, several rental cabins, & a general store. There's already a communal gas fire pit & a pontoon boat that can be rented.
The state park is within easy walking distance with lake access. There's also a boat ramp just up the hill. Grey Sandy is a really peaceful place & since we live fairly close, we'll definitely return. Pics are of the state park area & the campground.
Updated for 2023: all facilities are now in place & open. The store has all kinds of food, drink & goods at fair prices. The cabins are adorable. We"ve been a couple times this season & got a pull thru site; we've had no trouble leveling. Dogs are welcome.
This was just a basic average campground. There was no fire ban however the campground didn’t allow fires due to dryness. You have to pay $10 just to use bath house per day. Wi-Fi in campground was ok, but could be better especially for no phone service. Absolutely no cell service, until headed back out about 2 mi towards town (Verizon/Visible). The store was conveniently stocked and had a walk in beer cooler. (12 Pack Coors Light $16) Staff were nice! A few people staying full time there for work. Sites were un-even. Short drive down to the river which was $5 day use or state park side which was unknown fee. No playground for kids. Not much to do, probably stay closer to town if passing through again.
We were so fortunate to have come across this gem nestled in the hills, with true Montana outdoor vibes - hometown friendliness, the outdoors and consistent wildlife. Having the Helena Reservoir within a 5 minute walk from our 5th wheel was ideal. It was great to have our 42 ft and long bed f350 easily accommodated! It was a wonderful Basecamp for our summertime fun...photography, SUP, casual walks with the dog, trails and hiking, fishing, riding our ebikes! Ownership is engaging, kind and fun to be around. They have Starlink so we had consistent internet, which was a bonus! Other things I appreciated was the dog friendliness, evening fires and gathering around the huge propane firepit, visiting with people from all over, full services, cleanliness and of course, the Montana outdoors! The on-site convenience store was super and so nice to have pretty much everything you need right here! Access to the city is easy, plenty to do and see - what a history! Staff are friendly! Good community feel to it!
