Fort Wilkins Historic State Park, located in the northern tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula, features a modern campground, trails, a historical fort with a living history program, two 1860s lighthouses on Lake Superior and much more.
Visitors will enjoy a quarter-mile of rocky Lake Superior shoreline, Lake Fanny Hooe and a quarter-mile of sandy beach on Lake Manganese.
The park features a restored 1844 army military outpost, including 19 buildings, with a living history program provided by the Michigan History Center. Visitors can experience a look back at life on the northern frontier during the mid-1800s and a time when soldiers were stationed in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Such a cool and informative state park. The views everywhere you look are incredible. The history that you can walk through is unmatch by anything else in michigan
We camped here for three nights, and this campground is really nice! The bathrooms and showers are clean. There is a large, new playground with lots of fun things for children to play on. The fort buildings are highly informative of what fort life was like. The campsites are large, and the campground sits on a nice body of water. We really enjoyed our stay! The only downside was no beach.
This is one the most beautiful places we've been. The campground was clean, spacious. Great place to view the Milky Way from the beach. Rocks are all over every beach in the Keweenaw! The Fort is worth the trip, the beaches, the rocks the food..everything in this area is spot on. We traveled during peak fall colors and it was breathtaking.
Fort Wilkins State Park is more than just the fort! Beaches for rock hounds looking for those Lake Superior Agates and checking out the lighthouse. Lake Fanny Hooe for fishing, kayaking, and swimming. Access to trails for hiking and mountain biking. And of course, the fort. Fort Wilkins is a wonderfully restored copper era historic site. Most buildings are open to exploring and learning the history of the area and the copper boom. Also, a campground, which you should reserve in advance if you plan on staying. Finally, nice little gift shop to get your Copper Harbor and U.P. memorabilia. It is absolutely worth a visit. Have been there several times in my life and have enjoyed it as an adult and as a kid.
