Fort Wilkins State Park is more than just the fort! Beaches for rock hounds looking for those Lake Superior Agates and checking out the lighthouse. Lake Fanny Hooe for fishing, kayaking, and swimming. Access to trails for hiking and mountain biking. And of course, the fort. Fort Wilkins is a wonderfully restored copper era historic site. Most buildings are open to exploring and learning the history of the area and the copper boom. Also, a campground, which you should reserve in advance if you plan on staying. Finally, nice little gift shop to get your Copper Harbor and U.P. memorabilia. It is absolutely worth a visit. Have been there several times in my life and have enjoyed it as an adult and as a kid.
