Barnes is such a beautiful campground right on Lake Michigan and near all the best spots in the area. We really enjoyed our time there but there were some major downsides.
Our fire pit was literally right next to our neighbors. We like people but don’t want to mingle the whole time we are camping. It’s awkward to have them so close when there’s plenty of other spots on the site to have it.
The biggest problem was the bathrooms. They are rough as it gets. And it wouldn’t take much to get them up to par. I wouldn’t even step foot in the lake bathroom showers. When I saw mold on all the benches, that’s a big no for me. The forest bathroom was a bit better but still pretty nasty. I wish these places just put a little bit of money into their facilities so their patrons actually felt clean after a shower.
Overall, it’s a great spot!
This place is absolutely stunning, everyone is welcome including fur pets. Leash is required. Sunsets are absolutely gorgeous and a must see. The sand is smooth and the rocks are absolutely breathtaking. Northern Michigan has some of the most beautiful places and this is ranked in my top 10. Lake Michigan is a must see if your visiting Northern Michigan ❤️
Have been coming to this campground since I was a kid. This place keeps getting better and better. Well spaced sites, two full service bathrooms plus others well places. Lake Michigan Shoreline is great for swimming, rock hunting, and swimming. Multiple covered picnic areas, playground. Kid and pet friendly. Two sets of stairs to beach. Awesome!!
