Quiet place, not many campers even with great weather in mid June. Nice lake with small beach for swimming, only campers allowed. A few places reserved for nature viewing. Fairly easy trail to a fire tower. I had no cell coverage using T-Mobile even with roaming.
Great little out of the way campground! Very friendly staff, clean campground, clean bathrooms, and clean showers. The sites can be a bit close together if you're used to having more isolated camping trips but this was more of an observation than an issue. Metal fire pits with cooking grates at every site we saw. Very close walking paths to get out and explore. Very healthy land, I've never seen so many newts, salamanders, and mushrooms in one place before! My only complaint is that it rained for most of the weekend, but they can't control that. We'll be back next year!!
I was there camping twice. Not terribly private and you can hear everything. But the sites are very nicely kept. The bathrooms are very clean. The views of the lake are great; swimming and kayaking seem to be a great choice. Lots of hiking trails. They even have an accessible trail.
My family have enjoyed camping at DAT State Forest for many years. The park rangers are very friendly. The bathrooms and showers are clean and well-maintained. We enjoyed biking around the campsites. Each campsite is with generous space, hence provides privacy.
Very nice park. Beautiful pond/lake with beach. Hiked from parking area to fire tower. The trail is well marked with blue marks on trees. The trail is covered with tree roots, so you have to pay attention to where you walk. There is some incline here and there, especially the walk up to the fire tower. You can also drive up to the fire tower.
