From the the south: Take US 295 north and get off at Exit 22 for ME 125 towards Freeport. Turn right at Mallett Drive/ME 125 then make a quick left at Durham Road and a slight right onto Pownal Road. Pownal becomes Elmwood Road. Make a right at Hallowell Road/ME 9 and then a left into the park. There are road signs as you get close to the park. From the north: Take US 295 south (towards Freeport) and follow the same instructions as above, leaving the highway at Exit 22.
A quick hike to a beautiful granite summit, a perfect spot for a surprise proposal! Close to Freeport! Bring bug spray and plan on hiking close to dawn or sunset to avoid crowds.
It's one of my kids favorite spots to hike and play. It's a perfect starter hike for little people because it's a short trip to the summit - we did short trails when they were two-years-old and worked our way up to longer adventures. The playground is always terrific motivation to keep them motivated.
The park is great and not large. Great trails leading to wonderful views. Bring water because they warn that the water should be boiled. We were going to stay at the campground, but the water issue and lack of a dump station encouraged us to use the KOA Campground nearby instead.
