About Campground

The smaller of the two sisters, Lake Henry offers campers an opportunity to play and camp at a site where the stars are actually visible to the naked eye. Normally calm waters, a stocked lake, easy access the water, and fee free camping are perfect for individuals and families who feel that vacation is more about communing with nature, visiting with friends and family, and great fun in the sun, rather than a hustled and hurried routine.

Less than three miles west of Lake Henry, in the Town of Ordway, one will find two gas stations, a handful of restaurants, a grocery store, a drug store, medical services, a water spray park and quiet and fully shaded parks. Behind the Junior High School you will find tennis courts and a baseball stadium which you are welcome to use. In addition, JR's Country Store offers garbage and sewage dumping services, free Wi-Fi, fishing and hunting licenses, along with laundry facilities.

Camping is free and based on a first come basis.

Campfires are permitted in designated areas. PLEASE call the local Sheriff's department to get CURRENT FIREBAN information. 719-267-5235

It was beautiful but would have been way too windy to set up a tent.

Lake Henry is a beautiful location to Camp if you enjoy being away from it all. In the wintertime the campaign is abundant for RVs. There are no hookups or water other than the lake. There is a vaulted bathroom but Venture at your own risk as it kind of resembles something out of the movie It. The lake however provide spectacular views in the winter of migrating birds such as white pelicans. Beautiful views by the lake make this a little piece of paradise and Dusty dirty little old Ordway. You will want to watch out for wandering cattle and from time-to-time the beach lines may be covered with poo. It is part of the Open Range show cattle will walk right up on you while you're grilling out. Most of the time though they don't come down by the lake except to drink. All in all this is a great place to go especially if you are a self-contained camper.

It was a nice peaceful lake went during the week so there wasn't to many people. Not to many places to camp if it was more busy. The stars were beautiful at night. Definitely recommend some sort of fly trap when going. It gets very windy, the stars are beautiful at night 7/10
