About Campground

Overview

Lake Canyon Recreation Area can be found along Utah's scenic Energy Loop, on top of the Wasatch Plateau. It is located just off Highway 31, approximately 18 miles east of the town of Fairview. The recreation area is situated between Huntington and Cleveland reservoirs, at an approximate elevation of 9,000 feet. The area is a paradise for anglers and off-road vehicle enthusiasts.

Recreation

Huntington Reservoir has great tiger and cutthroat trout fishing, while Cleveland Reservoir offers great fishing for rainbow trout. Both reservoirs are perfect for canoeing and kayaking, however boat ramps are not available.

The extensive Lake Canyon OHV Trail System offers many miles of exciting trails and three beginner loops, making the area accessible to riders of all skill levels. Horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking are popular as well.

Electric Lake is nearby, offering boating, water skiing and fishing for tiger and cutthroat trout. A boat ramp is on-site there.

Facilities

This expansive, yet primitive recreation area contains several campsites that can accommodate groups ranging in size from 20 to 150 people. Approximately 50 additional single-family campsites are dispersed throughout the area.

Vault toilets are provided, but there is no water, electricity or garbage service available within the recreation area. Visitors should bring their own water and pack out all garbage.

Natural Features

The area is situated in a broad mountain valley, surrounded by the scenic peaks of the Wasatch Plateau. Stands of aspen and pine trees provide limited shade, and grasses, sagebrush and summer wildflowers fill the meadows.

Directions

The recreation area is located just south of Utah Highway 31, on Miller Flat Road. The Miller Flat road connects Highway 31 with Joe's Valley Reservoir 21 miles to the south.

High altitude, large, spread out recreation area with lots to see.

Camping for single families and group sites. Basic forest service restrooms. Reservoir and creek fishing. Good roads and 4 wheeler trails.

So many trails for small ATVs. Lots of deer that are not scared. Cool temps. Beautiful

No good. Super dusty, dry area, right next to a road where people are riding their little motor vehicles and big trucks and trailers past at all hours of the day and night. So many awful stinging flies as well! I’m all for camping, but this was a bad spot!

A beautiful place to camp. But for $15 there is no trash disposal or water. Which is fine but most sites don't even have a picnic table. There is a fire ring but no grate on it. I've been to dozens of Forest Service campgrounds and almost all of them have a picnic table and standard fire ring with a grate on it at a minimum. The roads around the campground are in rough shape but it didn't seem to be too much of an issue for most trailers. A lot of sites are uneven and while generally the sites are spread out, some are quite close to each other. It's a popular OHV area and while 95% of the riders are considerate there's the few that tear back and forth through the campground. When I arrived the bathrooms were clean and well stocked but after a couple of days they weren't quite as nice. Thanks fellow campers. Also expect the smell of burning trash because some people are too lazy to pack it out.

One of our favorite camping spots. We try to come every year! The nearby reservoirs are great for kayaks and paddle boards. Historically for us, the shore fishing has not been good on Huntington or Cleveland. If you want to shore-fish, try the smaller ones like the beaver pond reservoir, but sometimes (at dusk) miller flat reservoir has been good fishing for the kids. There are also nearby ATV trails that my husband and kids like to take our motorcycles on. If you are coming to camp in “peace and quiet” this probably isn’t the area for you. Lots of people in side-by-sides, four wheelers and on motorcycles use the nearby trails. It is also a pack-it-in, pack-it-out area with no garbage bins to dispose of trash. This campground is considered “boondocking” which means no hookups for trailers. There are however occasional vault toilets amongst the campgrounds.
