About Campground

Overview

Stillwater Campground is located 32 miles from Evanston, Wyoming, just off the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway at an elevation of 8,500 feet. The confluence of the Stillwater Fork and Hayden Fork is just outside the campground, providing great fishing opportunities. The byway cuts through the Uinta Mountains, which are known for their abundant recreational opportunities and scenic beauty.

Recreation

Fly-fishing for cutthroat and brook trout is a very popular activity on both the Stillwater and Hayden Forks. Numerous hiking, biking, horseback and off-road vehicle riding trails crisscross this beautiful region.

Facilities

The campground contains four group sites, three of which accommodate up to 50 people each; the fourth accommodates up to 25 people. These sites are equipped with large picnic tables, campfire circles and parking areas. Single-family sites are also available with picnic tables and campfire rings. A day-use picnic area is located at the end of the campground road.

Vault toilets and trash collection are provided. Roads and parking spurs are dirt.

Natural Features

The campground is situated along the Stillwater Fork among a thin forest of pine and aspen trees, which provide only limited shade. Summer wildflowers and grasses dot the landscape.

Nearby Attractions

Mirror Lake Scenic Byway parallels the Lower Provo River as it snakes across a portion of the Uinta Mountains, leading to numerous high alpine lakes and streams, countless trails, breathtaking scenic viewpoints and various campgrounds.

Fishing, canoeing, hiking, backpacking, horseback riding and biking are popular activities. The High Uintas Wilderness can be accessed from several trails along the byway.

Been going here for years and have enjoyed it but this year they have a camp host that is a cranky old man and managers that are running it like a Gestapo. Had a cousin that had stopped by to visit and they were going to give him a ticket. But they have 4 personal vehicles in their site. If you have visitors they have to park across the hyway and walk down. 2 young boys were fishing in the river and the host ran them out because they didn't stay in their campsite. I'll never go back.

I had a horrible experience this weekend at Stillwater campground. The host is very rude, my family was staying at a different campsite. We drove through Stillwater campground very slow, the host followed us and stopped us saying we were going too fast. I apologized multiple times he then very rudely asked us to leave!! We just wanted to park at a day spot for about 30 minutes to put our feet in the river. I have been going to that campground for years and never been treated like that!!! This host needs to find another position if he does not like his job as a host!! I then asked him his name and he became very aggressive towards me we will NEVER go there again!! Sad because we have great memories there.

I almost don't want to leave such a great review because I don't want anyone to know about it. This was by far the cleanest campground I've been to. Even the pit toilets were beautiful. The camp hosts fold the toilet paper like a hotel does! They do an excellent job of maintaining this campground. We'll definitely be back soon
