About Campground

Granite Flat Campground is located a short distance up scenic American Fork Canyon, less than a mile from Tibble Fork Reservoir. Visitors enjoy fishing, canoeing and exploring local trails. Recreation Nearby Tibble Fork and Silver Flat Reservoirs offer canoeing, kayaking and fishing for rainbow, brook and brown trout. A portion of the north shore at Tibble Fork is accessible. Both reservoirs are open only to non-motorized watercraft. Scuba divers frequent Tibble Fork's south shore. Hiking and mountain biking trails abound, some beginning at the reservoir and others nearby. The 6-mile Tibble Fork Trail, 2-mile Pine Hollow Trail, 3-mile Mill Canyon Trail and the 15-mile Ridge Trail are all in the vicinity. Facilities This large campground offers three group sites and several single and double-family sites, most of which are accessible. Picnic tables and campfire rings are provided, as are vault toilets. Horseshoe pits and a grassy baseball field are located on-site. Roads and parking spurs are paved. Natural Features The campground is situated among dense stands of aspen, Douglas fir, spruce and pine trees at an elevation of 6,400 feet. Rugged Wasatch peaks surround the area. Wildlife and summer wildflowers are abundant. Nearby Attractions Timpanogos Cave National Monument is just a few miles down American Fork Canyon, with a rewarding but steep 1.5-mile hike to a guided tour of the spectacular three-room cave system. The trail offers beautiful views of American Fork Canyon. American Fork Creek can be accessed 3 miles south. A favorite among fly-fisherman, the creek has light pressure for stocked rainbow trout. The 20-mile paved Alpine Loop Scenic Byway passes just a few miles from the campground, traveling through alpine canyons, mountain meadows, aspen groves and pine forests, with breathtaking views of the Wasatch Range. This road is not recommended for vehicles over 30 feet in length. Timpanogos and Lone Peak Wilderness Areas are nearby, offering a myriad of additional hiking and biking opportunities. We have done group camps two years and always enjoy being able to get away from everything. No cell reception so you have to make sure people know where it is so they don’t get lost on the way up (which always seems to happen with a few people). We have stayed at the site Stone Mason both times and its big enough to accomodate large groups. We like how you can camp so we always stay. There is a hiking trail right in front of the assigned parking lot for the site so you can always go do a hike if you want to. The only reason I’m giving it a four star is because the bathrooms smelled quite awful were a bit dirty and there is no garbage collection which is always a problem since most people think its a given that they don’t need to take their garbage with them when they leave and the ones who do stay the night are stuck trying to figure out a way to take it and sometimes that’s hard since you are already packing a lot for the camp out so I wish you could just clean the area and have the garbage collected as part of the service. We payed $300 for the site so it seems like something as basic as garbage collection would be provided but nonetheless we always enjoy the time we spend here with friends and family and will always consider this spot as an option since we do this gathering annually.

Yes, winter at Granite Flats campground is a thing. Great for avalanche safe snowshoeing along the road with some small trails through the trees for the more adventurous.

I already shared my experience here under a different account but was so pleased with this campground I decided it deserved another great review. We loved to scenery, the privacy of our spot, the fun trails, the accommodations... This is a very good family campground. Be aware that most of their spots are ideally for RVs and most aren't designed for tents. In our spot, I ended up doing a bit of landscaping to accommodate our larger family tent but now our spot is ready for next time too. There is much to do nearby, from baseball and volleyball fields to a beautiful river that cuts through the campground. There is fishing and swimming at a nearby lake reservoir too. The bathrooms are some of the cleanest we've experienced at any campground. You won't be disappointed with the campground.

Camp grounds are really nice, no complaints. Firewood is obviously gonna be overpriced, so bring your own. Place is swarming with mosquitoes due to stagnant water that’s standing around the campgrounds likely from excessive runoff this year. They should close the flooded campgrounds, but otherwise, very nice.

Great campground. Sites are close together but dense foliage gives the illusion that they're not. Only issue was sound. People were raucous - yelling, driving loud vehicles, etc - until well after midnight.
