About Campground

Camping at Kiholo is allowed on weekends only (Friday-night through Sunday-night). Camping sites may be reserved up to 30 days in advance.

Campsites are located along an unimproved gravel access road in a shaded kiawe (mesquite) grove fronting an ‘ili’ili (pebble) beach. This is a remote area with no facilities and NO WATER. Portable toilets are provided.

This area is under park reserve status and still undergoing conceptual planning for future public use. The area is a stark, lava-covered coastal park with small bays, sparsely vegetated coastline, historic lava flows, and wide open spaces. Gates are locked nightly. When entrance gates are locked for the night, vehicles will not be able to enter or leave the park.

A must see n do !

10.5 miles north of the Kona airport, past mile marker 83. Use the Vista overlook to safely turn around and access this Hard to Find, not well marked road.

Slowly drive down this maintained dirt road to the fork. Stay right and park at the end.

Walk north down the beach approx 400 yards, to find this Fine lava tube filled with fresh water !

Bring shoes, a bicycle helmet, a kick-board and a headlamp for an interesting swim in a lava tube !

Nice place to camp amongst the trees on a beach of black lava pebbles. Reservations are checked around sunset. Tidy portaloos without smell. The road in is not signposted, but google is accurate. Turn into the viewing point just after the sideroad if coming from Kona. The road down is shingle but can be driven with 2wd going slowly.

A lovely walk, plenty of shade and beach areas, plus hidden gems you’ll have to ask someone else about.

Perfect strip of black sand beach. We were able to watch whales 🐋 do flips in the ocean in front of us. Someone kite surfed, canoed and sail boarded off this same beach. But watch for the surf break, it's a leg breaker. We also found out we were sitting right in front of the once owned home of Loretta Lynn.
