About Campground

Welcome to JW Durango Riverside Resort! Located along the Animas River in the beautiful San Juan Mountains.

Tucked along the river’s edge at the northern end of the Hermosa Valley, our campground is just north of historic downtown Durango and right off the scenic Million Dollar Highway.

This area is home to countless recreational opportunities, including hiking, biking, off-roading, fishing, river rafting, horseback riding and the popular Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.

JW Durango Riverside Resort features a pool, game room, convenience store and more. We are remodeling cabins, modernizing our store and upgrading the pool area in addition!

You may choose to stay in one of our rustic cabins, vacation rentals, riverfront RV sites, spacious super-sites, or tent sites. With so much to enjoy, you’re sure to have a memorable stay with us at Durango Riverside. Keep the memories fresh by visiting our camp store for souvenirs to take the fun home!

This campground is so awesome. We are from Ohio and if we lived closer, I’d have a seasonal site here for sure. It is a very well maintained campground and the pool was super clean. The game room was a blast.

We really enjoyed the cafe and movie nights on the weekend.

The location was great. It was a little out of town but not too far. Don’t let the bad reviews deter you! They are newly owned and are doing tons of stuff to make it a great campground!

not very friendly. my daughter and a friend brought 2 dogs. i arranged for a "contemporary" cabin which was supposed to be dog friendly. i was not made aware of any of their policies or "dog rules". they also soaked me for a much bigger rental fee. when we got there, we found out, before having been to cabin, that dogs could not be left alone. i understand that. but in a cabin i call dog friendly, their should'nt be a bunch of stuff for them to tear up. such as a leather couch! when many of the other cabins had a couple of bunks and a microwave in them. seems like those would be a little more dog friendly. anyway, we were left with the task of finding a dog sitter the next day or we would have had to eaten 4 train tickets!! fortunately we found one. although we didn't know her from adam and took a huge chance in trusting her. she was great as it turned out. we should have been made aware of the "rules" on the phone while making the reservation. also, we had to go to office for trash bags and toilet paper as they were in short supply in the cabin. we won't be back. i will say the cabin was very nice. it should be for the price.

We arrived early hoping to post up in one of the community spaces and work til check-in (we arrived about 4 hours before check-in 🫣). Tracy welcomed us and told us about all the amenities (game room, dog park, swimming pool, facilities, the works), went over guidelines/rules and during that time directed her team to focus their attention on preparing our cabin to allow us to check in early. We wandered down to the community dock overlooking the Animas River to set up one of our most picturesque workspaces while the team put the finishing touches on our cabin. (Free WiFi is offered but if you need more bandwidth they offer paid packages for a reasonable price)

Within 5 minutes our cabin was ready and boy was it cute and located right on the river! Out front, two Adirondack chairs positioned around a private fire pit, charcoal grill, and private porch swing. Inside, super clean beds, updated decor, coffee maker, mini fridge, microwave, towels, toiletries, really anything you could possibly need.

You can tell the owners and staff really care about the property and guests. The grounds are immaculate, the bathrooms are some of the cleanest (and warmest) camp bathrooms we have used. The recently installed an off-leash dog yard that our pups really enjoyed.

We will absolutely be back next year!

Have been coming here for years and enjoy it each time! Our kids "grew up" here and now they come with their family as well.

The river front sites are truly unique and worth every penny when you consider the views & tranquility. The staff are all geared to ensure you have the most positive experience with the resort. Once you come, you'll be hooked!
