Campgrounds still open between September and May have no services (water, electric, trash pick up or rest rooms). Please keep them clean and pack it out. Thanks! Two miles northeast of Dunton, Burro Bridge is one of three campgrounds along the West Dolores Road (Forest Rd. 535), which branches north from Colorado Highway 145 about 13 miles northeast of Dolores. The campground has 14 sites above the West Dolores River with horse corrals and easy acces to the Lizard Head Wilderness, but not easy access to the water. The road follows the West Dolores River almost to its headwaters in the Lizard Head Wilderness. Side roads lead into the backcountry. After 32 miles, the road rejoins the highway 6 miles north of Rico. The road has a gravel surface, but the last 6 miles are steep, narrow, and not recommended for trailers.
From Dolores, CO, take State Rt. 145 north 12.1 miles to W. Dolores Rd. sign. Turn left at sign and go 23.8 miles to campground on the right.
an absolute gem of a campground that we stumbled upon b/c the other places closer to telluride were full. pickett, the camp host, is just darling and what a warm welcome! the road to get there from telluride was very unsettling in our 24' camper van BUT we survived and the back country was stunning. the road out toward dunton was even more beautiful. the campground was empty except for two other campers when we arrived so it felt very secluded and quiet. we only stayed one night but it was a great one for sure.
Good National Forest Campground Vault Restrooms. Water Tap no hookup about 14 spots
$20 night fee. This is why everyone is Bondockin Camping. Very pretty site and area
Great campground with a wonderful, friendly, informative host! Shady, not busy, and off the beaten path. Spotless bathrooms and fresh water. There were some flies, but not too bad.
Perfect secluded campground. Impeccably clean bathroom. Running water outside. And the friendliest host ("Pickett") of any place I've stayed. A little pricey ($20/night) hence only 4 stars. But if you must have a toilet and running water, the best place in the area.
Loved this lightly-used campground. Impeccable camp sites, impeccable bathrooms. Quiet, sits above Dolores river but was not buggy. Super kind campground host. 1.5 miles from Navajo Lake Trailhead and approximately 3.0 miles from Kilpacker Trailhead.
