There are five family walk-in tent campsites and a group tent site on an island, connected to the mainland by road. The island also has a log shelter, boat and canoe launches, picnic area, pit toilets and drinking water.
Don’t believe all the naysayers. It is small, but is loaded with some great scenery and wildlife.
Trains are wonderful machines that have played a pivotal role in development, maintenance and connection to industry throughout the area. Those who complain about them, lack the appreciation and forethought to plan around these necessary and amazing instruments of ingenuity. Please be aware that the trains run at a regular and reasonable schedule throughout the day and night providing a symphony of industry; with the clacking of tracks and soft horns, creating a most beautiful backdrop to the vision of modern and historic industry of the area.
I feel that this park is for the outdoor enthusiast families. There is not a beach or swimming area but what there is:
Lakeside camping areas, a fishing/boating/canoeing dream... boat launching dock, separate canoe/kayak area, some really interesting and nice lodge areas, plenty of parking, walk-in/cart-in campsites that are handicap accessible as well as a handicap accessible canoe dock. I have not been to a state park that has had as many handicap accessible port-a-potties.
This park is well kept, serene, and a favorite to get away.
Dropped to 1. Power failed on Labor Day weekend 2023 at 100F causing us to pack up and leave 3 hrs drive south at 630 in the evening. Camp host stated this was common due to older grounds, 30 amp towers, and generally overtaxed main panel.
Nice park with well spaced campsites, nice shower building, and decent trails (all flat). Plan to camp soon based on quality of the electric loop.
Great campground with a short drive to Winona. The day use shelter house was very impressive as well. The only downside is the railroad is right next to the campground and there are a few railroad crossings nearby where they have to blow their horn. Thankfully the crossings were far enough away to not really be a nuisance.
Merrick State Park is a great state park to enjoy many different activities at. There are many different beautiful types of scenery that abound in this state park, like shore front wildlife and nature, plenty of elevation changes, beautiful lush forests, native grasslands, and so much more. There's plenty of areas to experience some great fishing opportunities from the shore, as well as a boat launch. Plenty of parking in the park, and it never seems to get too busy. I went early when they first opened for the day at 6am, but I'll definitely be back when its actually light out and can get better pictures.
