Two primitive canoe campsites are available south of Black River Falls. These campsites are on the east side of the river and include a picnic table, fire ring and portable toilet. The sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis and limited to a one-night stay.
A free Special Camp permit is required and can be picked up at the Castle Mound campground or the Black River Falls DNR Service Center. The permit can be filled out online or, if you’d like us to mail you one, please see our contact information.
For additional information, including a map of canoe landings, see our Paddling the Black River brochure: https://p.widencdn.net/ixm7ly/Paddling-the-Black-River
we had reserved 10 canoes for our trip back in December and were told it would be 30 dollars per canoe after we paid and went on our trip they charged us 6 dollars more per canoe.
Then during our trip we met another group that had used this same place and the man driving the van told them to stay away from our group because we were "too rowdy".
this is our third year on this trip and I know they will never receive our business again.
Beautiful trip. Owner is very accommodating. Attached to a liquor store so grab some for the ride! Best place I've seen for overnight camping on the river. 4 hour trip is 9 miles. Some low areas this time of year but was able to make it through! Breathtaking flowage inbetween rock formations about half way through on the right side. Will definitely come back for years to come
For $50.00, we were given a very broken canoe which they had tried to repair with duct tape. The tape had torn and wasn’t supporting the seat causing it to slant at a very uncomfortable level thus causing a very uncomfortable canoe trip.
We rented a Canoe for a 2 hour trip. It was a great price, $35. They shuttled us to the landing and picked us up afterwards. No reservations needed. Excellent route. Beautiful nature & animals. Bald eagles, Great Blue Heron, Turtles and more.
Brought our own kayaks. Asked for a ride from take out to put in for 1 person - no gear. Couldn't have been more than 15 miles, used his own Equinox and charged $50. 2 years ago we paid $30. Next time we'll use uber.
