Campsite: COE Lake Ouachita Crystal Springs Campground

Decent. The location is great, the staff is friendly, and the shower house/restroom is clean. The cons were-

1) The tent sites are near the main road that takes you to the marina and campground. The posted speed limit is 25 and people were doing about 40-45 so I’d be concerned for children’s safety.

2) The fire ring and grill needed cleaned out.

3) There are two beaches. One of them closes at 4pm. I didn’t check the hours of the second.

4) I walked a trail and found a small tree had fallen and partially burned apparently awhile ago and has not been cleared from the path. It may have been an abandoned trail I was on.

If I come back I’ll be trying another campground.

Campsite: North Campground — Merrick State Park

Great campground with a short drive to Winona. The day use shelter house was very impressive as well. The only downside is the railroad is right next to the campground and there are a few railroad crossings nearby where they have to blow their horn. Thankfully the crossings were far enough away to not really be a nuisance.
