The German Ridge Recreation Area includes a campground, a 24-mile multiple use trail, a short hiking trail around a scenic lake, a day use area for swimming and picnicking, and several historic buildings. It was established during the Civilian Conservation Corps days and has long been a popular get-away for people in southern Indiana.
From Cannelton, IN, take State Rt. 66 east 9.8 miles to German Ridge (road). Turn left onto German Ridge and go 0.8 miles to Recreation Area - German Ridge sign. Turn left and proceed to campground.
One of my favorite places to bug out. I LOVE camping at Hoosier National Forest...and other sites designed and maintained according to National Park Service standards.
The walking trails need to explain how many miles you have to walk. Will never go back. Never thought we would be in those woods 4hours. I thought we were going to have to call 911. Very frightening for 3 children and Grandmother.
Challenging trails, Beautiful views, and peaceful nature are just a few things you can expect while visiting the German Ridge campground area.
