Out of 700 + reviews I rarely rate any type of establishment 5 stars, but Highlander Campground deserves every single star. We have traveled all over Colorado and this has been our best find yet. For reference, we have 45ft Class A & tow a jeep.
Nestled in beautiful Lake City, CO lies this quiet and quaint little campground with just 34 spaces, plenty of warm hospitality and beautiful views of the Colorado scenery. The property is clean and well manicured-with a personal touch everywhere you look. Their custom fire rings are the best part! From the minute you drive in you’ll feel at home. Scott & Amy go above & beyond to make you feel welcome. They have the cutest general store I’ve ever come across stocked with ice cream, beverages & snacks, your basic necessities, RV parts. as well as a great selection of brand name gifts and souvenirs all tastefully displayed. They have a reliable wifi network, are big rig friendly, have a small pet area, a 24 hour laundry room, personal trash "service" (no dumpsters) and is just a few short miles from downtown Lake City. All spaces have a fire ring, picnic table, shade trees and plenty of room between you and your neighbor. They also have jeep rentals, sell propane, ice and firewood. I would recommend grocery shopping prior to arriving in Lake City, they only have one general store with limited stock.
If you are traveling through Colorado this should definitely be a stop on your itinerary- you won't be disappointed!!
Thank you Scott & Amy!
We didn’t stay here (they were fully booked), but I was impressed by how friendly and helpful the owner was. He pointed us in the right direction for finding a campsite and food in town. The bathroom and shower facilities also appeared very clean and comfortable. I would love to stay here in the future
I haven't stayed here but have visited to buy ice. It is on an honor system so you can leave money in a coffee can and take a bag of ice. Staff is friendly. It's cool that places like this still exist.
There were pros and cons to this place. When I booked the place, I let them know we were in a tent and had a 20ft trailer pulling our sxs. She said it was no problem and we could park the truck and trailer at our camp spot. When we got there a gentleman led us to our campsite and was hounding us about what we were doing and if we unhooked from the trailer, we needed to park in overflow parking (overflow parking is more money per night) so we told him no we are parking at our campsite. We went to go check in and again the lady at the front hounded us to park in overflow parking. We kept telling her no, we are fine the way it is, there is plenty of room. From there she had an attitude with us every time we went in there. We finally stopped going in and went to buy wood and ice elsewhere so we could avoid any interaction. Also, they have a dog on a leash by the front and be advised because it does, bark, lunge, and growl at you. Yes, it may be a small dog, but if you have a dog in a place of business then it needs to be trained and not growling at customers. The pro to this place is location and they do keep the bathrooms very clean. Would I come back here? No, there are plenty of other places I will try before I would come back here.
We were lucky enough to reserve a spot in this hidden gem of a campground. The friendly staff and perfect location make this place special. The facilities are top notch - extremely clean restrooms and laundry room.
We highly recommend this campground and have already booked our spot for next year!
