Located on US Highway 50, exactly halfway between Canon City and Salida, CO, at MP 250 (and 1/2!). We are in western Fremont County, an easy 1.5 hr drive SW of Colorado Springs and 2.5 hr drive SW of Denver.
We stayed in one of the camping cabins for two nights- very quaint, nice view and close access to the river. These cabins are certainly no frills, but with that being said, our stay was perfect for what we needed. The cabin was generally clean, beds were comfortable, electricity and great WiFi in the cabins, and fans in each of the rooms. The bathrooms/showers were always clean. With the exception of the road nearby, the atmosphere was very calm and quiet. Management was attentive and helpful.
We stayed in the Otter tent and it was a very cozy stay. I loved that it was right on the river and everyone was very friendly 🙂
The only real downside was hearing the traffic all night long.
My wife and I had an amazing time at this campground. Gavin was super helpful and communicative during booking and checkin, he even will bring fresh firewood right to your spot. He is available and you will see him running around the park talking with people. Neil who does the maintenance was also great, offering to help with hook ups, and even had some great local restaurant recommendations. Both would go above and beyond to help their guests and we will definitely be back to this amazing gem along the Arkansas River
It was so pretty being right off the river. We stayed in the no-frills camping cabin and it was great. Gavin was extremely nice and helpful. When the cabin next to us tried to have 8+ people, tents, & a truck camper all stay at the cabin, Gavin was right on that and told them they were infringing on our cabin and made them get an additional spot. I really appreciated that. Overall, I really enjoyed it and we will be back.
Never saw an employee, and we were charged a room cleaning fee but the room was dirty when we arrived. (Flies, trash in room.)
Beautiful location, and a nice rope bridge across the river.
So, our experience was a great location with what looked like ambitious outdoor improvements in development but we felt forgotten as guests, only 20 feet away from the main office...was it ever staffed? We don't know.
