A network of backcountry roads has been developed within the park to provide access to the lakeshore and other areas of interest that are off the beaten path. Approved roads are signed with a yellow arrow. The black number in the center of the arrow designates the road number. Driving on roads or trails not marked with the yellow arrow is prohibited.
With hundreds of miles of backcountry roads, conditions can change without notice. Please travel on backcountry roads with caution. Driving off roads, in washes or cross country damages the fragile desert soil and is prohibited by National Park Service regulations.
Please help preserve the park by staying on approved roads, respecting the rights of other visitors and carrying out all trash and litter.
We really enjoy this spot. Easy to find and plenty of areas to explore and get done to the lake. I would recommend a high clearance vehicle if you want to drive all the way down to the lake. Otherwise you can park at the main parking by the bathrooms and hike down to the Lake ( which is a decent hike down).
Once you get down to the lake there are several options to set up shade structures and chill, swim, fish etc. The best part is it's not to crowded so you can space out and enjoy yourself. The only downside is there is a lot of trash from people not being respectful of nature. We try to bring an extra trash bag to clean up a little each time we go since there is a few dumpsters to get rid of trash. Also the bathrooms are pretty disgusting. I'd recommend sanitizing wipes to clean them. However they do have running water which is a plus. Beautiful spot overall and very chill to relax and take in nature.
Great camping spot if you like boondocking with and rv or a tent. Great view of the lake and open feel of the surroundings. Fishing is also good by the shore during fishing months. Having a boat or kayak is also a plus.
Fantastic place for dry docking! Okay for fishing (Sometimes, trashy people leave their trash, usually just during 3 day weeke ds) you will have to drive to one of the campgrounds to dump and refill fresh water, if you camp long enough. Make sure you have god tires on your rig. To get to a fishing spot, you will need 4x4 and know how to drive. It really is my favorite place on the lake.
Place is a giant Boat Graveyard! But it's still a very scenic area! Worth checking out!
