Water Canyon Recreation Area is 4.5 miles southeast of Winnemucca on Water Canyon Road.
Stayed here as a part of a job trip and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the campground. People who visit take real care of the area. It is first come first serve but some people are welcoming and don't mind you camping in the same pullout. The stream provides a very calming atmosphere and the sunset here was very beautiful. The restrooms are also very well maintained. I would highly recommend stopping by!
We stopped in here on our way to the coast. We were not planning to stay overnight in Nevada, but we were so tired, so we decided to camp a night here. We weren’t expecting much.. but this place was awesome! It was a little oasis and we could have stayed for many more days. The creek creates a beautiful riparian area, with cotton woods, aspen, wild rose, elderberry and more. There were so many butterfly’s and it was truly magical. There are good spots all along the way, all in the creek. There are beautiful rocky hills that are rewarding to see. There is a hike you can do along the creek. We will definitely stay here again!
