The park is 70 miles northwest of Los Angeles, near the top of Grapevine Canyon, via the Fort Tejon exit off I-5.
I must have driven by the Fort 50 times on I-5 before I finally stopped by to check it out and I am glad I did. It was so peaceful on a weekday next to a running creek. There was only one other visitor. There's a small museum which was highly informative. I highly recommend stopping at this historic Fort.
Pro: Nice museum room with a hard story. Good exhibits in different buildings with authentic-looking costumes and items. Great photo ops near the end of a sunny day. Easy parking and walking. Picnic tables. Cons: Buildings are open 8-4, in our case yesterday, the one we were walking to closed before 4:00. Park is open “sunrise to sunset”, but they count sunset as when the sun passes behind the mountain. Two clean bathrooms, handicap accessible, but no water to sink (freeze issues?).
This place is really amazing. Great walk and great, yet sad, history. The old really old oaks always make it better.
Just a cool historical place to visit. I didn't have much time but to merely take a couple of pics. 6 bucks to enter and spend time.
1st time coming here and we are greeted by two young deers. It was a beautiful blue sky buy super windy and it was cold. I love this place its beautiful. We will come back again to do some hiking.
