Songdog Ranch is not a dude ranch, nor some ritzy retreat. It is a secluded rustic get away for the 'real' and adventurous. There are no cattle grazing in the pastures, nor fields of fruit along our fence line. The only things ever raised here are small herds of wine glasses in the light of campfires.
This was THE coolest campsite I have ever been to! It is on top of a mountain and only has a single lane dirt road to the top so just keep that in mind when driving here. Amazing off-roading about 2 miles farther into the mountains. Jim was so sweet and very accommodating. He has soaker tubs that you can rent ($ based on size) to help with the heat ($20 for the single person). There were ZERO mosquitos/spiders/etc. I think I only saw one or two flies my entire stay. Almost every campsite has its own outhouse (non flushable) but clean, private and with toilet paper. Fire pits, table and potable water at each site. I was solo camping and felt very safe! Adorable ranch dogs too! I will ABSOLUTELY be back again!
Love this campground! Beautiful rolling hills, views of the valley (which the mountains have cool looking formations), night time is amazing with dark skies lit up with all the stars, the sites at this campground are far apart so that you feel like you’re out there by yourself, not too hot or cold during Spring, speaking of Spring, all the wild flowers were blooming.
Went to the second annual skykamper event and wasn't impressed with the event or the campground. But for those looking for a clean campground, and needing cell service this is the place for you. But for those like me, that prefer camping off the grid and away from everyone, you might want to pass this one up.
