Heading out in September 2023 for the Speed trials and camp on the dry lake bed
This place was one of the last scene was in the first Lethal Weapon film. Its a Great place to visit however its a very remote place through. Be prepared yo drive a lot to get there.
My husband and I have been camping here since early 1970. We just ended up there while looking another place in the dark, and decided to pull over and sleep. Before the sun came up we were awoken by dirt bikes racing around us sleeping on the ground in our sleeping bags. We were so pleased with the atmosphere that we've been going back with our family, gear, and toys ever since. It's a beautiful place to visit, but we've seen many bad injuries, so make sure you bring enough water and a phone, just in case someone has an accident, or needs assistance in any way.
This was my third time camping at El Mirage. It is magical out there (especially around dusk). Great place to land sail, ride quads, and fly kites. The people at the visitor center have always been helpful. Looking forward to going back again next year.
