Morris Bridge offers approximately 100 yards of trails from the I-75 Fletcher Avenue off ramp, east on Morris Bridge Road. Dead River is situated at the confluence of Dead River and the Hillsborough River. Nature lovers appreciate a scenic two-mile trail alongside the Hillsborough River. We offer primitive group camping at this wilderness park location.
Vehicle access restricted
Monday - Thursday the park is only open to pedestrian traffic
Friday - Sunday the park is open to vehicle traffic
Perfect 4, 5 or 6 mile hike depending which way we walk! With a restroom at the 1/2 point
Our favorite place on the river. Paddle upstream to Hillsborough river state park, about 1.5 miles up river. Tie off there, walk around and snack, and head back downstream. The current is slow, so paddling upstream is easy. If the water is low, or really clear, keep an eye out for giant limestone boulders in the water as you start getting close to Hillsborough river state park. Rocks are cool to see and often there's big ol' plecostomas hanging around on the rocks. IF YOU GO DOWNSTREAM FROM DEAD RIVER, BEWARE! It gets very confusing there and many people have gotten lost and needed rescuing. No joke. Enjoy!
Tail is short, half of it is overgrown and difficult to access. A portion of the trail passes next to a grey water release site
Good distance for exercise. You’ll encounter other people along the path. Not too much to do after you reach the end of the path. You can also get here through the state park or parking closer to the path on a parking lot.
