From Durango: Head 12 miles west on U.S. Highway 160. Turn north on County Rd. 124 at Hesperus (which has a convenenience store/gas station and a post office, as well as a restaurant) and go 5 miles. The paved road turns to gravel at the National Forest boundary. Access to campgrounds is by 2WD gravel road, but, soon thereafter, the road becomes rugged 4WD.
Very beautiful and the camp host were nice, reasonable price ($15) BUMMER that there is a fire ban but the next week we brought our propane fire pit, great investment!! Enjoyed our time there!
We camped at site 11 on the opposite side of the river. Campsite was very large and backed right up to the woods with some small trails. Host was very kind and kept bathrooms clean.
Beautiful ! The campground area is well maintained. Nice weekend trip.
