About Campground

Needles Outpost at Canyonlands is a privately owned dry campground at the entrance sharing a border with the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park in southeast Utah, just a mile and a half from the visitor’s center. The Needles Outpost combines the fun of rustic, primitive camping spots with a few modern conveniences.

The Needles Outpost can accommodate both RVs and tents. We do not reserve specific sites, and they are all first-come, first-served. Reserving a site guarantees you one. All sites are dirt pads. We only specify RV and tent sites so we know the sizes of RVs and we don’t fill up with larger RVs that wont fit in all the sites.

This is a quiet, private family campground with a bathhouse that has flush toilets and token-operated showers. We have Camping Rental Items (tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cots, and coolers) available if you email ahead to reserve them. Visitors staying with us fall asleep the quiet desert and wake up to natural morning light shining on the Needles of the Canyonlands National Park.

This spot is a gem. It was so quiet, the stars were unreal, the red rocks so beautiful to sleep next to, and the bathrooms and shower were nice. It was a 5 minute drive from all the Needles trailheads. The couple who runs it is very nice and they are doing good things out there in the desert from composting to artwork. Compared to the National Parks campground I preferred this one!

Absolutely love this place! Little oasis in the desert :) Amber and Caleb are absolute gems. They are kind and welcoming and care a lot. The campground is quiet, peaceful and lovely. The shop has all sorts of goodies :) including some of the best coffee I've had.

I loved staying here. It was a little scary getting there. I was traveling alone and coming down E211 when it was pitch black scared me to death. Plus, I was running low on gas. But, WOW when I woke up and looked around, the scenery was AMAZING. Word of advice make sure you get to the campground before nightfall. Cows apparently kill. The gas situation wasn't an issue because I knew they would have gas. Expensive, but needed and I was grateful. Amber and Brian were awesome honest. Come to find out Amber used to live close to where I live. The signs posted all over the place talk about not putting certain items in the toilets. Follow the rules as not to interfere with other's stay. Plus I'm certain this is a costly repair. I would 100% recommend staying here. And it's my opinion The Needles District is alot more beautiful than The Island in the Sky. Hope to make it back someday.

We camped at the Needles Outpost for four nights last week, and had a great stay. The hosts, Caleb and Amber are terrific, and are the reason I'm giving this a 5-star rating. They went above and beyond the call of duty to fix problems, handle special requests, and ensure we had a great experience. Make no mistake about it - it's remote, primitive camping, and is in the desert, which means it is dry and dusty. You have to bring your own potable water, and there are no electrical hookups. I'm amazed what Amber and Caleb are able to do in a truly "off the grid" situation!
