This place is stunning. Standing on the edge of the canyon and looking straight down at the river 1,800' below is breathtaking. There are several overlooks that give great views of different areas of the canyon. The South Rim road has the most. Don't miss the East Portal road. It takes you all the way down to the river on a VERY steep and winding road. No trailers allowed, too many hairpin switchbacks. The campground is good, located just a short stroll from the canyon rim. Walk the rim trail from the campground to the visitor center (1 mile). The views are incredible.

Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is a must-see for any nature lover. The canyon is home to some of the steepest and deepest rock walls in North America, and the views from the rim are simply breathtaking. There are also plenty of opportunities for hiking, camping, and fishing in the park.

Here are a few tips for making the most of your visit:

Start by visiting the Visitor Center to learn more about the park's geology, history, and wildlife. You can also pick up a map and get recommendations for hiking trails and other activities.

Be sure to hike the North Rim Trail to Painted Wall. This colorful rock formation is one of the most popular attractions in the park. The trail is also a great place to see mule deer, bighorn sheep, and other wildlife.

If you're looking for a more challenging hike, try the South Rim Trail to Warner Point. This trail offers stunning views of the canyon and the Gunnison River below.

Overall, Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is an amazing place to visit. The canyon is truly unique and offers something for everyone. I highly recommend adding this park to your travel list!

This is a beautiful area to see. Most of the lookouts are an easy walk from the parking areas along the road. You still need to be a little careful because of loose rocks and dirt, but it's pretty easy to traverse. A couple areas have stairs so just be aware of that if you have any knee issues.

Always check the website and ranger station before venturing out. Great to see even in the winter. Traction gear is recommended as it is slightly icy. Only south rim is open but gorgeous regardless. The visitor center closes at 4.

Bathrooms available but vault toilets. No water.

You know what you’re going to see! It’s Black Canyon! Absolutely gorgeous place in summer or winter. If you go in winter, you’ll have to bring your own snowshoes. I was told you can rent them in town. I ended up hiking a few miles just in my snow boots but it was not the funnest of hikes. So yes, please bring some snow shoes. They use to offer them here if you came years ago but they no longer do.

If you go in summer, get there early and make sure you check the site for any news. It’s an absolutely gorgeous place to visit and I can’t recommend this place enough! Enjoy.
