In Zavalla, TX, at the intersection of State Rts. 147 and 63, take State Rt. 63 east 4.2 miles to Caney Creek Recreation Area sign (Farm Rd. 2743). Turn left onto Rt. 2743 and go 5.2 miles to campground sign. Turn left at sign and go 1.4 miles into campground.
Used to be a fantastic place to camp and enjoy the woods. Now it's basically a good ramp. The Corp and Park Service let it fall apart like Harvey Creek Recreation Area. Looks like Hank's Creek is next. They have started extending the closed season and are slow to make repairs.
Its a good place if you really want to camp old school. No electricity or water available. We've camped here several times. Its a busy boat ramp but it's a very quiet, and mostly empty park. Good fishing in the cove. On-site bathrooms but once again, no running water or lights so be prepared.
The boat ramp is good and there are no stumps nearby. But the bathrooms are not nice at all and no garbage cans. Also, the ramp fee is cash only in an envelope drop box. Would be nice if the electric pass machines were available.
The lake is beautiful. Campsites are clean and close by, but there are only a few and it seems to get very crowded. Toilet and trash receptacles are functional. Boat ramp is adjacent to campsites so I wonder if noisy at height of boating season. Not the best, but there aren't a lot of camping sites around here, so...good enough. Lots of wood but burn ban in effect 😕
I love Caney Creek, great fishing hole always have a great time. Boat ramp is a nice size but sometimes people park all kind of ways.
