Nice easy scenic trail to the East Alpine Portal. We went over the ridge to the other side for the west portal, old round table, and scenic view.
Really fun trail to hike. Not too steep of a grade and had great guides when I went giving history and telling me about the nature in the area!
I’d never done this hike before but can’t recommend it enough. Gorgeous views and wildflowers and a gradual climb since this is an old railroad bed. Interesting historical markers along the way as well.
I have walked this Trail at least a dozen times in my life from the late '80s on. The Beatles killing the area has really ravaged the trees but the views are still spectacular around Hancock up to the tunnel entry point. This is an easy hike for just about anyone. If you choose to make it more difficult you can take Altman Trail over the top and check out the West Portal which has more of the historical structures and small museum. It's a bit of a hike for sure but worth it if you're in shape.
