Great place to stay overnight for hiking Mts. Massive or Elbert. Campground and road are suitable for tents, tent or truck trailers but a bit rough for towing or Class A motorhomes. Potable water is provided from a pump, good upper body workout to fill a 5 gal. jug! Pit toilets are available.

Sites are large and well-spaced, but the lower campground is right on Halfmoon Rd. so there is some road noise. Dispersed camping is available lower (towards Leadville) on Halfmoon road.

Dispersed camping is also

No water at all but still $19 a night, stayed two nights and never heard from or saw the camp host. Beautiful area, well spaced campsites, and very close to Mt Elbert and Mt Massive trailheads as well as Emerald Lake.

Wonderful campsite. Great location and within decent range of several 14ers and trailheads including Elbert, Massive, La Plata as well as the wonderful little city of Leadville. Nice and quiet while I was there, however it was during the week. Some good site selections. The sites are fairly well spaced apart. Beautiful woods and views of stars at night. The road getting there (Halfmoon Rd.) isn't too bad. A bit rough and narrow at times but go slow and you should be fine.

Bob the campground host was very polite and helpful for the holiday weekend, we stayed for 4 night and it was incredibly affordable and quite can’t wait to come back.

I am currently the Camp Host for Rocky Mountain Recreation. The campsites here are all clean with their own fire pit an picnic table. There are 3 vault style toilets that are frequently cleaned. All campsites are first come, first served. Please come and visit us. Remember the nightly rate is $22.00 this year in 2022.
