Awesome campground right on the water, offering free breakfast, inner tube & kayak rentals, shuttles, and located directly on various hiking trails including the Appalachian! The camp store has a great re-supply to offer, & also has alcohol. Big thumbs up!
This was an amazing campground! We camped right on the water and could go swimming and we had access to many hikes. I do recommend you go on blueberry ledges trail, it's about 2 miles long but at the end of the hike there are natural waterslides and awesome rock formations.
A great campground with beautiful views of Katahdin and the river. Prices are maybe a little steep as they are per person, but it includes a nice breakfast and clean restrooms/showers. Everybody who works there is SO friendly and accommodating. Only things to note are the bathrooms didn't have hand soap, and try to avoid sites 13-15 - they are right next to the bridge and truck traffic is loud throughout the night!
Store sells you firewood knowing you can't bring it in the camp. Rangers tell you the store is a scam and make you throw it away even though you just bought it just down the road.
Then the website says 4-6 people
per site, but rangers insist website is wrong and make you buy another site for 5 people. None were available so after hiking all day, couldn't stay and had to drive 7 hours overnight to get back home and of course kept the money for the site already rented.
Beautiful place, kinda feels like the end of the world. The store had nearly everything I needed, and the ice cream was good. Tent sites are kind of expensive, perhaps there should be a designated hiker tent area. Showers were lovely though.
